2. Don't Miss the Free Cyberchase Briefing
The sixth season of CYBERCHASE focuses on math in building and sports.  Targeted to ages 8 to 12, each episode delivers positive messages about math by teaching concepts in a fun way that kids can understand, centered on a core math standard developed by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.  Developed by Engineers Week partner THIRTEEN (WNET-PBS NYC), the Builders' Math Activity Kit contains a DVD with copies of Builders' Math themed television episodes and a CD-ROM with hands-on activities tied to each episode.  Engineers Week volunteers can receive free kits by agreeing to participate in one hour-long teleconference training session. The first training is scheduled for March 19 at 3 PM EST.

Please send the following information to info@eweek.org to reserve your spot in the telecon training session and receive your copy of the CYBERCHASE Builders' Math Digital Activity Kit:    name, organization, mailing address, phone, number of kits requested (one per volunteer), how you plan to use this resource and how many students you plan to work with. Put CYBERCHASE KIT in the subject line.   Registered participants will receive the kit and dial-in numbers prior to March 19.

3. College Fairs are Blooming with Engineers
For the first time, the engineering profession will have a presence at dozens of college fairs visited by high school students and their parents.  The fairs are sponsored by the National Association for College Admission Counseling and serve high school students with attendance by college admissions personnel and service organizations for scholarships and financial aid.  The Engineer Your Life (EYL) project – a campaign to reach college-bound high school girls about engineering – is a partner for the fairs.

Here's how you can participate. The National Engineers Week Foundation, on behalf of EYL, is looking for volunteers who can relate well to high school students to staff the fairs. And, while the EYL campaign targets high school girls, the fairs also serve college-bound boys and they will also be visiting our engineers.  EYL provides materials and fair registration fees.  Volunteers will also receive a page of talking points as well as signage and posters and brochures for dissemination. April fairs are located in, among other cities, New York (Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Inland Empire), Hartford (CT), Houston (TX), Cleveland (OH), California (Los Angeles and San Francisco) and many more. Go to http://www.eweek.org/site/Engineers/engineering_women/extraordinary.shtml and click on fairs for a complete listing.  Volunteers should email engineeringwomen@eweek.org and indicate the fair of interest.

Founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers, Engineers Week (February 18-24, 2007) is celebrated annually by thousands of engineers, engineering students, teachers, and leaders in government and business. In 1988, the National Engineers Week consortium expanded its scope and now includes more than 100 engineering, scientific, and education societies and major corporations dedicated to enhancing the public understanding of the engineering profession and to promoting pre-college interest in math, science, and engineering as a career option.
