The Silicon Valley Engineering Council has set up a great database for matching up engineers and pre-college teachers for classroom visits during E-week or soon thereafter. See http://www.svec.org/discover-e.html and click on the appropriate link depending on whether you're a teacher seeking a visiting engineer or an engineer willing to visit classrooms.

I recall when this system was based on paper forms sitting on large tables at Lockheed's Sunnyvale site. I got matched up with a great San Jose teacher that resulted in several years of valuable interactions for both me and the kids. That teacher has now moved out of state but I've now met another fine teacher through this on-line database whose classes I'll be visiting soon.Try it, you'll like it.
