1. Future City Regions Compete
All 39 regions of the National Engineers Week Future City Competition held their regional finals during January, and 39 teams are looking forward to vying for the national championship in Washington, DC, during Engineers Week.A special treat this year will be the presence of Sanna Gaspard, one of this year's New Faces of Engineering, as part of the panel of celebrity judges.

2. Introduce a Girl to Engineering
February 18 is Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day 2010. You can request a free volunteer kit here. Tell us about your event and why you volunteer for Girl Day here.
A great resource is Engineer Your Life (EYL). Nearly 88% of girls exposed to EYL said that Engineer Your Life made them more interested in engineering as a career. Get similar results at your events by:

The Pentagon, Washington, D.C., celebrates Engineers Week with an event on February 17. With a theme of "Engineers Make a World of Difference", featured speakers will be Mr. Sidney O. Dewberry, PE, LS, Founder & Chairman - Dewberry, Author, Civic Leader, Philanthropist, speaking on "Lifetime Perspectives of an Engineer", and Mr. Ronald L. Ewing, PE, RLS, Chief Executive Officer – Dewberry, speaking on "Engineers:Present & Future."
For Girl Day the Metropolitan Transit Authority in New York City is recognizing the key role that women engineers play throughout the MTA's agencies.Hear first-hand from representatives of various programs about their goals, ambitions, and experiences in the MTA workforce. The Engineering EXPO at the University of South Florida in Tampa is a huge event featuring student organizations, and people from industry showing off their stuff to the Tampa Bay community. Local pre-college students come to check out engineering at USF. It's a great way to get kids interested in engineering as a potential field. See more at http://sweusf.wordpress.com/home/activities/expo/.This year, SWE is running a parallel event called Engineering the Court to introduce female high school basketball players to engineering. For the past five years, the Latina Outreach Working Group (part of the Intel Latino Network) in Chandler, Arizona has hosted "Hermanas: Design Your Future" conference reaching over 900+ Hispanic female students and introducing them to engineering. For 2010, the plan is to target 300 girls in grades 6-12, and the conferences are scheduled to be held at Estrella Mountain Community College on February 20th (for middle schools) and March 10th (for high schools). Near Stuttgart, Germany, IBM will team up with Daimler and Bosch to host students for a whole week during their vacation, learning about mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and information technology in those three companies. The National Engineers Week Foundation coalition comprises more than 75 engineering, professional, and technical societies and more than 50 corporations and government agencies. The coalition is dedicated to sustaining and growing a dynamic engineering profession by ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce, increasing understanding of and interest in engineering and technology careers among young students, and promoting pre-college literacy in math and science.Among the oldest of America's professional outreach efforts, the coalition also raises public understanding and appreciation of engineering contributions to society through year-round innovative programming and celebration.
