Engineers Make a World of Difference

EWB-USA Material Needs

EWB-USA communities typically begin with a water or sanitation project. However, through the course of our relationship, there is more than one project per community. Throughout all these projects, there is a common list of materials that are needed. They are:

  • PVC piping and associated materials such as valves, connectors, glue, etc.
  • Poly piping (such as drip irrigation piping) and associated materials such as emitters, etc.
  • Metal piping (such as corrugated metal piping for under roadways).
  • Concrete and associated materials such as cement, sand, rocks, rebar, wire mesh, etc.
  • Photovoltaic modules, wind turbines, hydro turbines (especially locally fabricatable turbines).
  • Electrical system components such as batteries, LED, fluorescent lights, etc.
  • Water pumps such as hand/foot powered, solar powered, ram pumps, electrical powered, etc.
  • Water filtration systems.
  • Water testing kits.
  • Team Use Items:
      • Transportation – air, ground
      • Satellite phones, air time
      • First aid kits and water purification pumps/chlorine tablets
      • Water canisters
      • Drink mix packets or powders.
      • Energy bars
      • Peanut butter
  • Tools of all sorts (especially multi-tool/pliers, screwdrivers, hammer, handsaws, shovels, hoes, picks).
  • Corrugated metal sheeting, wire netting, acrylic resin, nails, screws, rain gutters.
  • Insulation materials.
  • Fans for building ventilation.
