1. Record Number of Teams Set for Future City National Finals
Winning teams of middle school students from 37 regional Future City Competitions - the largest field ever - are set to converge on Washington, D.C. for the Future City National Finals during Engineers Week, February 18-20 at the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill. They've considered harsh realities such as aging infrastructure, climate change, and economic difficulties for their cities, and their overall outlook is one of promise and hope. For example, for Melissa Doan from St. Philip Neri School in Oklahoma, this year's theme on how nanotechnology will monitor their city's infrastructure, was a glimpse into a not-too-distant horizon. "We're researching and writing about a technology that one day will actually be part of our lives," says Melissa. Click here to see all regional finalists.
