NSF, College Board Seek Re-design of AP STEM Courses

On May 2 a panel of distinguished educators led by the College Board and the National Science Foundation met in the Rayburn House Office Building to discus the redesign of AP science courses under a grant from NSF. The grant is intended to explore ways to enrich future offerings in AP biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science.

The Panelists were:
David Ely, AP biology teacher from Champlain Valley Union High School in Vermont; Shirley Malcom, PhD, American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS); Judy Wurtzel, Aspen Institute; and James Pellegrino, principal investigator on the grant and professor of cognitive psychology and education at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Moderator was Jay Mathews, education reporter and columnist at the Washington Post.
