Dr. Julie Martin Trenor

Dr. Julie Martin Trenor is the Director of Undergraduate Student Recruitment and Retention for the Cullen College of Engineering at the University of Houston.  She holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Virginia Tech and a bachelor's degree in the same field from North Carolina State University.  Dr. Trenor develops and teaches freshman engineering courses, and directs the women-in-engineering program, WELCOME. Her funded research projects include two grants related to women in engineering, including a study investigating how ethnicity affects female students' perceptions and experiences related to engineering, and how these factors influence female students' intentions to persist in engineering majors.

She holds national leadership positions in Women in Engineering Programs and Advocates Network (WEPAN) and the Society of Women Engineers, and is a member of the American Society for Engineering Education's Women in Engineering and Educational Research and Methods Divisions.
