Beth Alwin is a Senior Engineer with Verizon Business’s Advanced Internet Technology group. Ms. Alwin provides engineering support for the Very High Performance Backbone Network Services (vBNS+) network. The vBNS+ network provides an environment for cutting edge technologies such as Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), IP Multicast, and IPv6 (Internet Protocol version six). This nationwide network is heavily relied upon by many government agencies today. Beth tests and certifies new technologies, designs network solutions, and provides extensive documentation and training for the operations and provisioning groups that support the network.
Ms. Alwin has been an employee of Verizon Business since 1999 and is located in Ashburn, Virginia. Prior to her position as Senior Engineer, Alwin worked in the UUNet Network Operations Center training new employees on how to troubleshoot and support the largest IP backbone in the world at the time. This consisted of conducting classes in router configurations and understanding routing protocols, as well as troubleshooting live network issues.
Ms. Alwin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems from George Mason University. In addition, she holds both Cisco and Juniper certifications, as well as participates in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF)
