7,000 Visitors ZOOM Into Engineering at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC.
The fourth annual ZOOM Into Engineering Family Festival was enjoyed by nearly 7,000 visitors to the National Building Museum on February 19, 2005. Mike and Maya from the popular TV show ZOOM™ were on hand to lead activities such as building cantilevers from drinking straws and masking tape, designing a weight-bearing bridge out of popsicle sticks, and making parachutes and slime. The local USFIRST robotics teams held a day-long demonstration competition, and NASA provided an authentic space suit to try on. Navy Nuclear demonstrated buoyancy with Flinker variations, IBM provided computer stations for TryScience explorations, and numerous local engineering chapters provided additional hands-on activities.
The event received major funding from IEEE-USA, BE&K, ASME, and local donors.
