Bow High School and Nobis Engineering Celebrate National Engineers Week
Tom Bobowski, petrochemical engineer at Nobis Engineering, Inc., leads an experiment simulating petroleum leakage with engineering students from Bow High School.
Bow High School engineering students recently teamed up with engineers at Nobis Engineering, Inc. to celebrate National Engineers Week. The students are part of Project Lead the Way, a nationally recognized pre-engineering program that offers college credit through Rochester Institute of Technology.
Students met with civil, geotechnical, and environmental engineers to get a firsthand view of the industry. Nobis representatives included Peter Delano, Brian Vincent, Thomas Bobowski, Mark Gallup, and Jackie Brough. Mr. Bobowski led the students in a lab experiment to simulate the complexities of a hazardous waste site clean-up. Mr. Gallup explained the redesign of the Manchester Airport Road Project via drawings and soil as well as core samples of the area. Mr. Delano and Mr. Vincent provided a general overview of the company and the requirements of the engineering industry. The engineers underscored the importance of teamwork and the ability to adapt to changing environments. Dr. Chris Naimie, Bow High School Project Lead the Way teacher, and Mary Ann Gaschnig, Bow School to Career Coordinator, accompanied the students.
