Engineers Make a World of Difference

Meet the Engineers:
Deborah L. Grubbe, P.E.
Corporate Director – Safety and Health
DuPont Company

Job Description:
I help DuPont develop new strategies and ideas on how to improve our already strong safety and health performance. In this assignment, I collaborate with DuPont employees from all around the world, and I travel over 50% of my time. This is my 15th job assignment in 23 years. My other jobs have been in manufacturing and project design and construction management.

Education:
Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Purdue University, 1977 Certificate of Post Graduate Study in Chemical Engineering, University of Cambridge, England, 1978 (Winston Churchill Fellow)

How I got into engineering/What I like about it:
It was my high school math teacher that suggested engineering to me as a possible career choice! I always liked science and math in high school, although it took me some time to understand chemistry! What I like about engineering is that you have VERY interesting work, and that work makes the world a better place. Also, you can travel around the world and do work, and you can earn enough money to support yourself in a comfortable way. I believe it is very important for women to be financially independent, and engineering enables that.
