Nominated by IEEE-USA
Dr. Nagel, 29, is an assistant professor at James Madison University.
She is doing pioneering work by taking inspiration from nature for the design of sensors, instrumentation and processes.  Her research has resulted in sensor designs that perform “up front” processing which vastly reduces data streams and increases efficiency.  Dr. Nagel's work has also lead to the creation of design tools and methods that assist engineers with varying knowledge of biology to systematically develop biologically-inspired designs.  She has authored numerous publications and teaches bio-inspired design to engineering students.
