National Engineers Week Presents the New Faces of Engineering.

Kent Nelson, P.E., is a Flight Test Engineer for Northrop Grumman Corporation at its Baltimore, Maryland facility.  Mr. Nelson designs and analyzes structural modifications for a fleet of test bed aircraft to enable the installation of radar and sensors designed by other engineers at Northrop Grumman.  His duties include completing the initial requirements definition, carrying out conceptual and detailed design, generating cost estimates and schedules, obtaining quotes from subcontractors, overseeing parts fabrication, and writing comprehensive structural substantiation reports.

Mr. Nelson, 30, was appointed by the Federal Aviation Administration as a Candidate Designated Engineering Representative in the field of aircraft structures.  This unique certification authorizes him to recommend approval of technical data necessary to determine compliance with applicable FAA airworthiness standards.

A member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Mr. Nelson has donated his time and services to Volunteers for Medical Engineering,  judged high school math, science and technology fairs, and has also mentored entry level engineers within Northrop Grumman as they pursue engineering licensure.

Mr. Nelson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a Master of Engineering in the same discipline from the University of Maryland, College
Park.
