Tye Jordan, Nominated by the National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientists and Technical Professionals
Tye JordanTye Jordan is an Engineering Intern at Boyle Engineering in Denver, Colorado, where he is a wastewater treatment specialist. At the Fall 2007 Engineering Professional and Technical Conference of the Rocky Mountain Water Environment Association and the Rocky Mountain Section of the American Water Works Association, Jordan presented “Development of a Biological Process Model for the City of Laramie WWTP [Wastewater Treatment Plant] to Optimize Treatment Performance,” which described biological modeling of cycling aeration blowers on and off to save operation and power costs, while also improving effluent discharge water quality performance. For the aforementioned organizations, Jordan is an assistant editor of Rumbles, the Rocky Mountain regional water/wastewater publication; their Young Professionals liaison; and chief organizer and developer of the first collegiate Rocky Mountain WEF Student Design Competition.

Jordan also holds memberships in the Water Environment Federation, American Society of Civil Engineers, and National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientific and Technical Professionals. He is currently working on a master’s degree in environmental engineering at the Colorado School of Mines.

Eileen Velez-Vega, E.I.Eileen Velez-Vega, E.I., Nominated by the Society of Women Engineers
Eileen Velez-Vega, E.I., a civil analyst in Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc.’s aviation division in West Palm Beach, Florida, manages the design of airport infrastructure. She focuses on constructability and development to ensure the continued safe and effective operation of the airports during construction.

Prior to joining Kimley-Horn, Velez-Vega was a research civil engineer in the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center, where she was involved with research and development in pavement management, nondestructive testing, soil stabilization, and rubblization of concrete pavements for the Department of Defense.

An active member of the Society of Women Engineers, Velez-Vega also participates in the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Transportation Research Board. In addition, she currently leads the Young Professionals group at Kimley-Horn and encourages them to succeed and give back to the community.

Natasha Wilson, Nominated by the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering
Natasha WilsonNatasha Wilson, an engineer with The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey in Newark, New Jersey, is responsible for the development of design solutions related to grading, drainage, and water and sanitary utilities for the roadways and airports under the Port Authority’s control. Her work on runways, taxiways, and water systems has contributed to the effective operations of major airports.

Wilson is an active member of ACE Mentor program and participates in the “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day” sponsored by the Port Authority. She is a member of the Society of Women Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, National Society of Black Engineers, and the National Library of Poetry.
