Engineers Nominated By Institute of Industrial Engineers
Christian Baldwin
Christian Baldwin, principal at EI, Inc. in Southern Pines, North Carolina is a pioneer for bringing simulation to healthcare in a way never done before. He has created safer, more efficient systems for patients and healthcare providers by modeling, designing, and implementing solutions that increase financial and operational efficiencies. His work has provided increased capacity and more efficient patient flow for hospitals, surgery centers, and medical practices.
Baldwin has also worked to develop radio frequency and infrared applications with gaming theory for patient tracking and resource allocation for surgery centers. The progress he has made has led to a development partnership for a product called SmartSurg, which increases profitability or surgery centers and increases patient safety at the same time.

Divya P. Vohra
Divya P. Vohra is an industrial engineering supervisor with the United Parcel Service in Addison, Illinois. She is one of the youngest supervisors in the engineering department at UPS in her region, having completed their 2 year training program in only one year. Earlier in 2006, Vohra presented the keynote paper at the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization conference and was awarded the first place Diamond Award. The paper outlined a program she is currently developing at Northern Illinois University (NIU) involving a global curriculum to suit the needs of global commerce.
While attending NIU, Vohra was a house leader for a living/learning community in the Science Engineering and Technology (SET) house, and founded a speech club teaching engineering students communication skills relevant to the corporate world. She was recently asked to publish another paper for a UNESCO publication, and is working on a patent using global IP laws.

Sol Fontanes, P.E.
Sol Fontanes, P.E. is a senior industrial engineer with the Walt Disney World Co. in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, where he currently supports the Disney Cruise Line. He has previously supported many key businesses including Resort Operations, Park Operations, and Costuming.
In only 5 years, Fontanes identified and implemented millions of dollars in cost savings, developed new processes, and improved existing ones. Examples include developing embark, debark, and luggage processes for the Barcelona home port for next year’s new Mediterranean itinerary. He also developed facility design proposals to consolidate multiple costuming facilities that support Disney’s 50,000+ cast members.
Fontanes has Six Sigma experience and helped lead the University of Puerto Rico’s recruiting efforts. He currently chairs the Industrial Engineering Diversity Focus Team and sits on the Business Insight and Improvement Diversity Board.

Susan Chandy
Susan Chandy, an industrial engineer with The Boeing Company in Seattle, Washington, helps design the production system for the Boeing Commercial Airplanes’ all-new 787 Dreamliner. Her focus is to improve the processes for fabrication and assembly of empennage products at the Composite Manufacturing Center, an area of excellence for primary structures built using advanced technologies.
She has developed a computer simulation model that balances factory flow to reduce manufacturing floor space and capital equipment costs. She also developed a dashboard visual controls system to communicate real-time metrics to the shop floor, driving proactive behaviors and preventing problems that could stop the moving line.
