Engineers Make a World of Difference

Engineers Nominated by ASME
(American Society of Mechanical Engineers)

Keith Kibbee, P.E.
Keith Kibbee, P.E.Keith Kibbee, P.E., is a mechanical engineer with CH2M HILL in Portland, Oregon. Upon starting at CH2M HILL, he was assigned to specialize in airflow modeling, using Computational Fluid Dynamics, which helps architects and engineers improve building energy efficiency and fine-tune their building designs for precise airflow management. He has proceeded to carry airflow modeling technology to new levels of efficiency, and broaden its application into such varied arenas as pharmaceutical manufacturing centers, research laboratories, semiconductor cleanrooms, outdoor exhaust dispersion, and natural ventilation projects.

Kibbee has published articles and made technical conference presentations on contamination control technologies and recently made a private presentation of airflow models to the CEO of a leading sports apparel company. Kibbee is also known as a “Renaissance Man” who handcrafts furniture, rebuilds guitars, and plays lead guitar in a local rock band.

Andrew Detar
Andrew Detar is an engineer with the Westinghouse Electric Company in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. As an undergraduate, he became involved in the research of actively twisting airfoils using shape memory alloy wires. The objective was to demonstrate the ability to control the angle of attack along the length of the airfoil in an effort to increase the efficiency and performance of the turbine and rotor blades. The results of his research were published and submitted to the 2005 American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition.

Once at Westinghouse, Detar became involved with the ASME Nuclear Codes and Standards, contributing to a white paper focused at improving the effectiveness of a nuclear code that established the minimum quality standards for design and construction of nuclear power plants.

Detar also participates and assists with presentations to local elementary schools, informing students of the benefits of nuclear power.
