Engineers Make a World of Difference

Engineers Nominated by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air- Conditioning Engineers

Cody Hoff, P.E.
Cody Hoff, P.E.Cody Hoff, P.E., a project manager with Carter & Burgess, Inc. in Fort Worth, Texas, was most recently tasked with leading the mechanical design for a new 244,000 square foot federal courthouse in Las Cruces, New Mexico, which is being redesigned to save taxpayers approximately $20 million in construction costs.

Hoff has also led the mechanical design for the renovation of 37 buildings and the construction of several new facilities at Fort Hood, Texas, in support of the return of soldiers from the 4th Infantry Division’s tour of duty in Iraq. He’s also managed projects at numerous airports around the country to provide security upgrades in response to the September 11th terrorist attacks.

Scott Campagna, P.E., LEED AP, MBA
Scott CampagnaScott Campagna, P.E., LEED AP, MBA, a mechanical team leader for McVeigh & Mangum in Jacksonville, Florida, is responsible for reviewing the design work of his team members, ensuring quality of construction documents, developing project specifications, tracking job cost performance, developing proposals for new work, and maintaining client satisfaction. He supervises a team of 6 people comprised of other professional engineers, engineer interns, designers, and CADD operators.

Campagna recently completed the mechanical systems design for two difficult projects: the first multi-purpose administrative/education building for the new Florida Community College at Jacksonville Cecil Campus and the Northshore K-8 school project for the Duval County School Board in Jacksonville, Florida.

Benjamin M. Goss, P.E.
Benjamin M. Goss, P.E.Benjamin M. Goss, P.E., a professional engineer with Petersen Engineering, Inc. in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, has worked in the HVAC industry for over two years, focusing on sustainability and the integrated design process. He has consulted architects on techniques for minimizing energy use in buildings, performed detailed heating and cooling load calculations, computer modeled the annual energy performance of buildings, and helped design a net-zero energy home.

Previously, Goss worked in the semiconductor industry, designing equipment that is used to manufacture computer chips. His name is on the patent for the device that tightly controls the introduction of water vapor to a semiconductor manufacturing process. He also managed the design of a series of vacuum valves, and was responsible for the mechanical design of a series of vacuum gauges.

Erik Olsen, P.E.
Erik Olsen, P.E.Erik Olsen, P.E., a green projects administrator with the Chicago Department of Construction and Permits in Chicago, Illinois, developed and now manages the Green Permit Program, Chicago’s primary incentive for environmentally-friendly construction. This program provides expedited building permits and financial incentives to building projects meeting green certification requirements. Over 60 building permits were issued in 2006, and over 100 will be targeted in 2007.

Olsen previously worked as a consulting mechanical engineer at OWP/P, developing creative solutions that have been imitated by other local engineers. He is an active member of the U.S. Green Building Council, Chicago Chapter, where he has raised the profile of green building with the creation of green building trolley tours. He is also the creator and author of GreenBean – greenbean.typepad.com – a valuable resource for the local design community to learn about green buildings in Chicago.
