Engineers Make a World of Difference

Danielle E. Fason, E.I.
Danielle E. Fason, E.I.Danielle E. Fason, E.I., a project manager at WilsonMiller, Inc. in Tallahassee, Florida, has taken the lead for the company’s infrastructure design of several major residential developments, and also has extensive permitting experience with city and county governments. Among her many projects, Fason designed roadway, infrastructure, and stormwater systems for one phase of the 499-acre WaterColor resort and residential community, which earned an Award for Excellence from the Urban Land Institute in 2004. She has also performed hydrological analysis and design for the restoration of the wetlands at the Big and Little Talbot Island State Parks, which provide vital habitat for an array of plants and animals.

Fason graduated magna cum laude from the Florida State University, and recently became president of the Tallahassee Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers, which named her their Young Engineer of the Year in 2006. In addition to her regular duties, Fason also supervises the intern program at WilsonMiller’s Tallahassee office.

Brian W. Craig, P.E.
Brian W. Craig, P.E.Brian W. Craig, P.E., a project engineer with United Consulting Engineers & Architects in Indianapolis, Indiana, has worked on a variety of projects with extensive experience working on interchange systems. His design experience began on the I-465 Interchange Project, which won an ACEC Engineering Excellence Award in 2003. Since then, his work with interchanges has continued as a key designer in 12 various types of interchange modifications throughout the state of Indiana, including the I-65 Corridor, I-80/94 Interchange modification at I-65, and the I-80/94 Borman Expressway.

Craig’s projects in Lake County, Indiana accommodate over 170,000 vehicles per day, including the highest truck volume in the country. He has now increased his project management responsibilities by leading the management and design of the entry road system into the terminal at the new Indianapolis Airport Authority’s Midfield Terminal Project.

Laurel Passantino, P.E.
Laurel Passantino, P.E.Laurel Passantino, P.E., a project engineer at Malcolm Pirnie, Inc. in Phoenix, Arizona, is a recognized expert in UV disinfection, leading Malcolm Pirnie’s UV Disinfection Knowledge Team and presenting over 20 papers at local and national conferences. She was also a major contributor to the Environmental Protection Agency’s UV Disinfection Guidance Manual. Passantino has also played an integral part in projects for the city of Scottsdale, Arizona, including suggesting a unique blending solution to solve the city’s compliance problem with arsenic regulations. The solution helped save millions of dollars which would otherwise have gone to fund arsenic treatment facilities.

In addition to her engineering work, Passantino is a trombone player in the Salt River Brass Band, whose mission is to bring music to people who usually couldn’t afford such luxuries. She regularly performs for retirees and at high schools and community colleges throughout Arizona.

Lyndsey Alm, P.E.
Lyndsey Alm, P.E.Lyndsey Alm, P.E., a senior environmental engineer at Leggette, Brashears & Graham, Inc. in St. Paul, Minnesota, works at the interface of technology and the public. She has been very active in the assessment and mitigation of vapor intrusion into buildings from environmentally impacted soil and groundwater. Interactions with the stakeholders in these projects has introduced her to community leaders, professional colleagues, and citizens as she addresses questions about vapor intrusion and demonstrates how technology can be applied to provide solutions to these problems. She is also a regular presenter at technical conferences, and has been able to apply her skills throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.

Her commitment to engineering is also evidenced by her activities as an active member of the American Council of Engineering Companies/Minnesota, where she currently serves as the Young Engineer representative on the Board of Directors and is active in the Scholarship Committee. Alm has also been instrumental in initiating monthly round tables at her firm to promote continuing education.
