Engineers Make a World of Difference

Engineers Nominated by ASME
(American Society of Mechanical Engineers)

Debbie DetchDebbie D. Detch

Debbie D. Detch, is a structural analysis engineer in the Raytheon Mechanical & Optics Engineering Center in Space and Airborne Systems, in El Segundo, California.

Detch performs structural analyses of precision opto-mechanical sensors using advanced engineering tools such as NASTRAN finite element structural analysis code, PRO-E and I-DEAS 3D CAD software.  She guides structural design to survive and perform under harsh shock, vibration, and temperature conditions and provides numerical simulation to optimize the design prior to building and testing mission critical hardware.

To improve overall analysis process, Detch, a Six Sigma specialist, has developed and manages an internal web-site, which provides detailed mechanical engineering related resources for peer engineers in her department.

Kenneth FlakesKenneth Dwayne Flakes, EIT

Kenneth Dwayne Flakes, EIT, is a product design engineer for Cameron in Houston, Texas.

Flakes is the lead test engineer for a High Test Awareness Project (HAP).  In this role, he has conducted Appendix F tests per API standards on metal seals for API casing; authored test procedures, designed test equipment, and conducted pull tests for three slip style hangers.  Flakes has worked on-site within Cameron’s manufacturing plant - responding to non conformance reports (NCR) and providing technical engineering support on surface, drilling and subset equipment.

He was Programs Chair for the National Society of Black Engineers and served on the  University of Houston Engineering Alumni Association’s Engineers’ Week Committee.

Helena JinHelena (Huiqing) Jin, Ph.D.

Helena (Huiqing) Jin, Ph.D., a native of China, is a post-doctoral researcher at Sandia National Laboratories/California in Livermore, California.

Jin’s Ph.D. work concentrated on new metrological techniques for mechanical characterization at the microscale and nanoscale and involved advances in the development of nanometrological techniques.  Since joining Sandia National Laboratories/California, Jin has continued to make innovative contributions to the mechanical and material characterization of microsystems and nanostructured materials.

Jin is an active member in several engineering and honor societies.  She has been published in a number of journals and presented to numerous international and national conferences.

Anoosh SharghiAnoosh Sharghi, EIT

Anoosh Sharghi, EIT, is a senior mechanical engineer II at Raytheon Santa Barbara Remote Sensing.

Sharghi is responsible for the technical success and delivery of the door subsystems on the Visible and Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) that is part of the National Polar Orbiting Environmental Satellite System.  This is one of the key tools used for weather forecasting.

Sharghi is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and has been selected for the Raytheon Systems Engineering Training and Development Program (SETDP).
