National Engineers Week Program

Type of Program:
Engineers Weekend at Carnegie Science Center, open to the public.

Organizing Group or Groups:
Science Center Staff with assistance from 23 companies, agencies, societies and universities

Brief Description:
This two-day event was open to the public and 5,100 attended. More than 220 engineers participated by assisting and talking with guests and running special interactive display tables. The center also ran a scavenger hunt to encourage visitors to visit the tables. More than 60 Girl Scouts fulfilled requirements for badges and patches. A total of 12 teams participated in an IEEE robot car competition.

Estimated cost: $11,715.93

Fundraising:
A budget of $12,450 was raised from 37 corporations, societies and universities.

Number of people involved in the project:
A total of 221 engineers participated; a 27% increase from the previous program.

Amount of time in planning and running the project:
Coordinator spent approximately 450 hours over 12 weeks. This included two orientation meetings; one for points of contact with various participating organizations and one for volunteers. It also included monthly committee meetings, held year-round.
