Special Project for Professional and Student Engineering Chapters

For Engineers Week 2001, the National Engineers Week Committee is sponsoring the fifth annual Outdoor Advertising Campaign. We will provide material to be posted on outdoor billboards at no cost to you, if you provide the space. For information on how to organize and implement a billboard project, read the following. You can order an outdoor ad kit online. Here’s what you should know up front:

  • You’ll need to do the legwork but it will be worth it. By placing public service ads, you’ll have raised awareness of the engineering profession and of your professional or student chapter.

  • National Engineers Week headquarters will provide, at no cost to you or the advertising company, the printed material to be posted. We’ll even add your organization or school name to the advertisement.

  • We will provide signs for standard billboards measuring 11’x 25’ and smaller postings of 5’x 11’. Note that these are heavyweight multiple-section panels, not banners, and are not suitable for free-standing display

  • It is unlikely that space will be given completely free-of-charge, so you should develop a small budget to cover a posting fee; approximately $50-$200 per billboard.

  • You need to start now! Orders for material to be posted are due at National Engineers Week headquarters by December 1, 2000.

In the outdoor ad kit, you will find:

  • Tips for organizing your campaign.

  • A sample letter to contact outdoor advertising companies.

  • Brochures describing National Engineers Week that can be sent with your letters.

  • A black & white copy of the material to be posted. The actual ad is black and white with one color and is based on this year’s national graphic image. We are also providing a camera-ready page of the public service announcement that you can try to place with local newspapers for a black & white advertisement.

  • An order form for the materials to be posted. Return the form to National Engineers Week and we will send materials directly to the advertising company.

Thank you for your support and good luck! If you have additional questions, please phone the National Engineers Week Headquarters at 703-684-2852 or email eweek@nspe.org.
