Once-Upon-A-Time Contest: Re-Engineered Fairy Tales
What a fantastic response from storytellers across the country! Students in elementary, middle, and high school, as well as engineers and teachers, let their imaginations run wild.. Some teachers made this a class project, with spectacular results. Special thanks go to:
- Ms. Flesch’s fifth grade class at Bay Meadows Elementary, Orlando, Florida.
- Grade 5 at Sheridan Hills Elementary School, Hollywood, Florida.
- Seminole Elementary, Seminole, Florida.
- Hunter’s Creek Elementary, Orlando.
- The engineering classes at Stranahan High School, Ft. Lauderdale area.
- Kennedy/Longfellow School, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
- Ms. Sewell’s class at Ridgecrest Elementary, Largo, FLorida.
- Park Springs Elementary, Coral Springs, Florida.
- Ms. Hattons’s class at Chapel Trail Elementary, Pembroke Pines, Florida.
- Ms. Davidson’s communications class at Queen Anne’s County High School, Centreville, Maryland.
- Glenridge Middle School, Winter Park, Florida
With so many imaginative new fairy tales it was almost impossible to choose which few to feature here. From those that didn’t make the final cut, here is just a sampling of story lines:
- The boy who cried wolf took a lie detector test and the sheep were saved.
- An engineer inspected the Three-Little Pigs’ houses and decided they didn’t meet Florida building codes.
- Jack and Jill didn’t need to go up the hill for water because they had indoor plumbing.
- The 3 Billy Goats Gruff used jet packs to cross to the other side and avoided the troll under the bridge.
- Little Miss Muffet used Raid™ on the spider.
- One of the Three Little Pigs used camouflage fabric on his house so the wolf couldn’t find it.
- Cinderella’s smart house malfunctioned and the only electrician who could fix it was a prince.
- The Ugly Duckling has an extreme make-over.
- Santa Claus keeps his naughty and nice lists on his laptop.
- Sleeping Beauty is awakened by an alarm clock, not by the prince’s kiss.
- Old King Cole used an MP-3 player instead of fiddlers three.
And now, submitted for your pleasure
