Engineers Week 2008
Born in China and raised in Taiwan, Patrick Chang came to the United States when he was 27. In 1989 he went to work for IBM as an advisory programmer at the Southlake, Texas, laboratory. Patrick Chang is a Certified Master Information Technology (I/T) Architect at IBM. He has over 20 years of technical experience and eight years of project management experience in diverse industries and integrated technologies.
Prior to the existence of software such as Windows or Outlook, he designed and implemented an application programming interface for an address book and email system for the 1992 Winter Olympics.
Chang is the chairman of the Chinese Institute of Engineers (CIE), Dallas/Ft. Worth chapter. He has organized various technical and professional activities for local communities. Last year Chang introduced a new young professional leadership training program. It provides a dynamic environment for young professionals to network, communicate, and learn from each other.
Recently during CIE-USA 90th anniversary celebrations, Chang was elected Chairman of CIE-USA and Engineers Week. In this role, he will promote the communication and the exchange of information among various fields of engineers and scientists who are interested in the well-being of the Chinese engineering community in the US and abroad.
“CIE-USA promotes communication and information exchange among engineers and scientists to empower young professionals to become the next generation of industry and community leaders,” says Chang. “We are thrilled to be working with IBM to mobilize our membership and support a network of diversity that not only embraces the Asian-American community, but all communities that can make our profession, as well as our nation, stronger.”
Mr. Chang holds an MBA and BS degree in Computer Science. Patrick and his wife Helen currently reside in North Dallas with their two children, Michael and Lisa.
