WELCOME TO THE ALL-NEW www.discoverengineering.org
What is www.discoverengineering.org?
- It’s a fun, new website developed specifically for middle school students to learn more about engineering, technology, math, and science.
- It provides instant access to 3 “crazy cool” videos designed and produced for students in grades 6, 7, and 8. Clean water, wind turbines, and solar power are just a few of the topics and lessons addressed in a highly entertaining way. Videos are available on DVD for classroom or auditorium showings.
- Save planet Helios! PowerUp! is IBM’s new interactive game where players help save plant Helios from doom by harnessing wind energy and more. Launched during National Engineers Week 2008, viewers also learn how video games are made. PowerUp! is accessible from www.discoverengineering.org.
- It’s a resource for educators and includes teaching aids and materials that correspond to each of the technologies and lessons in the videos.
- It’s a new opportunity and a cool tool for engineers to talk about the profession and inspire kids to consider engineering as a career option.
Join the Party!
As an educator, parent, or engineer volunteer you can make a huge difference in children’s attitudes about engineering, technology, math, and science. Studies show that many kids just need someone to add a “spark” for the idea to make an impression and affect their attitude in a positive way.
In 2008, the National Engineers Week Foundation wants to reach 2008 middle schools and student groups with information about www.discoverengineering.org. As an educator, parent, or engineer you can help by having a “Launch Party.” Click below for party information and also let us know what groups participated by adding your group to our roster.
Some of you have been involved with Engineers Week for several years. Others may be new. Regardless, we’ll provide you with the tools you need to introduce the videos and new website to a school or classroom of your choice.
