| Let’s Party!! Join the 2008 Middle School Launch Party “8 Fun and Easy Ways to Launch www.discoverengineering.org” - Do you or your neighbors have middle school-aged children?
Contact their technology, science, or math teacher and ask if you can meet with them to discuss the videos and website. Check out http://www.eweek.org/site/DiscoverE/start.shtml for tips on how to get started. - Check with Community Outreach at your company.
Your employer may already be involved with schools in your community. Contact your corporate community outreach or human relations departments to encourage them to include www.discoverengineering.org in their efforts. - Are you involved with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Rainbow Girls, etc.?
Contacting these groups in your community is a great way to launch the site and provide fun and interesting activities for leaders to use. - Throw a pizza party!
Your company may be able to sponsor this or many schools can get pizza at a reduced rate. Another idea is to have school cafeterias serve pizza on ‘launch day.’ Use the pizza boxes for solar cookers! (see the Solar Decathlon video and activities on www.discoverengineering.org) - Enhance Your Engineers Week Activities.
- Add balloons and party favors to your science center or mall exhibit to celebrate the launch.
- Enthusiastically announce the new website in your classroom talks.
- Include activities from the website in your classroom visits.
- Participating in “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day?” Be sure to look at www.discoverengineering.org when they visit your company or use any of the 3 videos and activities as the cornerstone of your event.
- Host a luncheon.
Bring area educators together to introduce them to the site and view the videos and teacher materials. Serve pizza and have them build their own solar cookers. - Don’t Party Alone!
Partner with local universities, businesses, or science centers in your area to host a ‘Red Carpet’ video preview party for middle school students and their teachers. - Be Part of the National Party.
Make your schools and clubs part of the 2008 national launch party and list your group here. Kids, teachers and volunteers will appreciate seeing their listing. |
