Final Report from IBM for 2008
IBM served as Corporate Co-Chair in 2008, with CEO Sam Palmisano serving as Honorary Chair. The Chinese Institute of Engineers (CIE)–USA served as EWeek 2008 Co-Chair. CIE-USA leaders, Patrick Chang and Zarina Stanford, both IBM employees, led and participated in many activities throughout the EWeek 2008 campaign.
For EWeek 2008, 6550 IBM volunteers engaged more than 250,000 pre-college students in discussions and activities related to engineering.
Total volunteers: 6550
Female volunteers: 2750
Under-represented minority volunteers: 1450
Students engaged: 251,600
Female students: 110,200
Under-represented minority students: 73,100.
Contributing to these totals were programs at 57 sites across North America, plus 30 sites in Asia, Australia, Europe, and Mexico. Our effort was truly global.
While most IBM EWeek 2008 activity took place in North America, a huge contribution was made by IBM China, where 1100 volunteers engaged 23,000 students in Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Taipei.
